Dear BASIS International School Parents and Guardians, 

亲爱的广州贝赛思国际学校家长及监护人：

There has been a beautiful change in atmosphere at BIGZ. The presence of students on campus picks up the pace and energy of the day: steps are quicker and more purposeful, colors are brighter, and smiles are more spontaneous. For those of you who were able to send your students to school this week, thank you for doing so. It has been a great touchstone for normalcy. For those of you who were not quite ready to make the shift to in-person learning, we look forward to seeing your children in-person after the holiday.  

上周，广贝大家庭迎来了最激动人心的时刻——孩子们终于回“家”啦！学生的到来为沉寂已久的校园增添了绚丽的色彩，为我们的工作注入了满满的动力。我非常欣喜地看到，老师们和孩子们迈着更加有力的步伐走进校园，师生重逢的喜悦之情更是溢于言表。在此，我衷心感谢各位家长支持学校线下复课的决定。你们的暖心支持让我们真切地感受到一切都在重回正轨。我也期盼，在春节假期之后能够看到更多孩子回到校园。 

We have passed through a few difficult months together, and it is fitting that the new year should bring change. I know that many of us have struggled in different ways through this particularly tempestuous year of the tiger, and I am thrilled that the year of the rabbit will bring with it the return to full in-person classes and a period of stability for our students, teachers, and families. To all of our BIGZ families, I wish you a happy new year full of health, happiness, and prosperity.

回首虎年，尤其是过去数月，我们经历了许多变化与挑战，因此我们更加希望在兔年展开新的篇章。新年伊始，万象更新，我们坚信全面的线下复课将给老师、学生和家长带来更加稳定的教学安排。最后，我谨代表学校祝福每一位广贝家人新春愉快，身体健康，平安如意！

CHAPTER TWO

ECE Chinese New Year Celebrations

幼儿部：童心童趣贺新春

BIGZ ECE

In the past two weeks, the BIGZ ECE community organized a variety of activities to send off the Year of the Tiger and welcome the Year of the Rabbit.

虎跃前程去，兔携好运来。过去两周，广贝幼儿部安排了精彩纷呈的庆祝活动，喜迎中国年。

PreK-2 held an exciting online talent show. Students sang, danced, played the piano and read beautiful poems. The show ended with a lucky draw, where gifts and awards were given out to our students for their wonderful performances.

小班的师生们率先欢聚“云”端，举办了多姿多彩的线上才艺秀。孩子们或载歌载舞，或抚琴吟诵，精彩纷呈的表演让所有观众看得如痴如醉。老师们也安排了惊喜抽奖活动，用一份份精心准备的小礼物为这场才艺秀画上了句号。

Besides the online celebration, the ECE community also had an in-person Chinese New Year celebration last Friday. From the twelve zodiac dance to the lion dance, from the “Happy New Year” song to the creative paper-cutting works, our ECE children not only celebrated the upcoming Chinese New Year with their teachers and friends, but also had a chance to explore the fascinating traditional culture.

紧随线下复课的脚步，幼儿部在上周五也组织了热闹非凡的线下春节庆祝活动。从活泼可爱的“十二生肖”舞蹈到惟妙惟肖的舞龙舞狮表演，从温暖动人的新年歌声到别出心裁的窗花作品，在趣味盎然的活动中，孩子们不仅得以与朝夕相处的老师和同学提前共度新春佳节，更是真切地感受到了中华文化的博大精深。

We have eagerly awaited the arrival of the Year of the Rabbit and all of the goodness that will come with it. As many of us are about to travel both near and far in order to reunite with family members, we want to take a moment to reflect on the Year of the Tiger. At BIGZ, we are so grateful for our amazing students and their perseverance through this atypical year. We are confident this new year will be better than ever. 

兔年迈着轻盈活泼的脚步翩翩而来。在我们与家人团聚之时，在我们展望未来之际，我们不妨坐上“时光机”，跟随影片回忆虎年的点点滴滴。在这个机遇与挑战并存的年份，我们有幸与出色的广贝学子并肩而行，以不变的初心和毅力应对万变的时局。我们相信，明日更比今朝好，所有的美好将会如期而至。

BIGZ Lighted Up the Stage at the 2022 Guangzhou Young Thespian Festival

When the 2022 Guangzhou Young Thespian Festival opened for registration this past fall, our students from the Broadway Theatre Arts Club were ready to expand their performance skills in monologue, duologue, and musical theater. Our BIGZ students, not to be deterred by overwhelming deadlines and ever-shifting circumstances, submitted their videos on time and advanced to the final with the following results: 

当2022年广州青年戏剧节开放报名时，百老汇戏剧俱乐部的学生早已跃跃欲试，准备好在戏剧节的舞台上大放异彩。学生们参加了单人独白剧、双人情景剧以及音乐剧共三个比赛单元。比赛期间，我们的小选手们遇到了各种变数，但他们不惧挑战，保持定力，在报名截止日期之前顺利提交了参赛视频。随后，他们更是过五关、斩六将，顺利晋级线上决赛，取得了优异的成绩。

A Super Golfer in the Making 

挥杆，向远方！

It was after the very first lesson that Tommy Lin knew he had found it! Mesmerized by the thrill and the mystery of the game of golf, at only nine years old, he committed himself to the sport and has never looked back. The road to success was not paved with gold but rather, with grit, determination, and sacrifice, and the support of many pivotal figures in his life. According to Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers, it takes ten thousand hours of practice to turn a novice into a professional golfer. Tommy estimates that he reached this threshold by the end of last year. 

我校十一年级学生Tommy Lin对高尔夫可谓是“一见钟情”。自九岁第一次接触高尔夫起，他便彻底爱上了这项充满魅力与活力的运动。Tommy的成功并不是一蹴而就。在这个过程中，他付出了很多努力与精力，但也获得了家人、朋友和教练的支持与鼓励。马尔科姆在《异类：不一样的成功启示录》提到，若想要为职业的高尔夫选手，我们至少需要练习一万个小时。而早在去年年底，Tommy就达到了这个门槛。 

Motivated by his parents, friends, and his two coaches, those hours started paying off when he finished 15th in the Chongqing Open in December 2022, outplaying many professional golfers. He subsequently placed a solo 3rd in the China Amateur Open Championships with a bronze medal. As a result, Tommy achieved one of the highest honors in Chinese amateur sports, winning the prestigious titles of National Sports Master and becoming one of only four thousand recipients in its history. 

Tommy的认真与努力得到了回报。在2022年12月的重庆公开赛上，他的表现超越了众多职业选手，获得了第15名的好成绩。随后，他更是在中国业余公开赛斩获铜牌，赢得了国家“运动健将”的称号。这个称号是给予业余选手的最高荣誉，全国仅有四千人获得。

Tommy is simultaneously a proud BASIS International School Guangzhou scholar, who maintains a rigorous daily academic and fitness routine. Being a talented athlete helps, but he is quick to add that the magic formula is talent plus discipline and stamina. All BASIS eyes will be on him as he pursues his dream of playing on the PGA Tour and imitating his golfing idols, Tiger Woods and Rory Mcllroy. 

作为一名优秀的广贝学子，Tommy不仅在运动上表现亮眼，在学习上也从不松懈。对于Tommy而言，获得成功的秘诀是天赋、毅力和恒心。我们期待他在逐梦的道路上所向披靡，和他的偶像泰格伍兹以及麦克罗伊一样在美巡赛的舞台上发光发热。
