为什么孩子们需要学习正确地拼写？

Why children need to learn to spell correctly?

对拼写的焦虑，阻碍了孩子的写作，特别是在孩子们选择用词的时候。尽管在越来越科技化的今天，我们已经拥有了有很多文字处理器，但依然有需要写字的地方。

Anxiety about spelling inhibits a child's writing, especially their choice of words. Even in these days of word processors there are still times when we need to write.

昆明校区如何设置关于拼写的课程？

How does BIBS Kunming set up spelling course？

在基础学段也就是一年级的阶段，我们每天都设置了语音课；到二年级的阶段，则会在一周至少有三次非连续的语音课和拼写课；到了关键的阶段二，也就是三至五年级，我们每周都设置了一节拼写课，且把课程内容贯穿到生活中，保证孩子们一周至少能够拥有不断巩固、加强的机会。

In Foundation and Year 1, there should be a daily phonics lesson. In Year 2,there should be a discrete phonics and/or spelling lesson at least 3 times a week.In Key Stage 2, there should be a discrete spelling lesson one a week, with planned. opportunities at least 3 times a week for consolidation and re-enforcement.

How should spelling should be taught? 

首先，我们明确教学的重点，并保证教学的节奏；其次，我们基于学生的长短板，这里的长短板并不是以年龄划分，保障课堂的连续性和进步性；我们还采用广泛的分组策略，包括全班教学，小组作业和两人结对作业构建具有自主能动性的课堂；同时，我们使用更具趣味性的教学方法，包括了直接说明，游戏，探索拼写规律等方法进行教学，通过方法、策略提高孩子们的拼写能力。

Teaching should be focussed and with pace.There needs to be clear continuity and progression – teaching should be based on children’s strengths and weaknesses rather than their age or year group, and objectives should be drawn from the school schemes of work. A variety of groupings should be used including whole class teaching, group work and paired work. A variety of teaching methods should be used including direct exposition, games and investigation of spelling rules and patterns. Children should be taught methods/ strategies to enable them to learn new spellings.

那么关于记单词有什么有效的策略吗？

Useful memorising strategies！

我们不断的提醒学生：遇到一个新单词，记得使用看-想-遮-写-查的方法来记忆它。

When you come across a new word ALWAYS use the LOOK- THINK- COVER- WRITE- CHECK method to memorize it.

看- 仔细观察新单词。如何怎么把它拆分成小块儿呢？通过这些小块儿是否能够联想到其他单词的组成模式吗？

LOOK carefully at the new word. How can you break it into smaller bits? Do any of the smaller bits remind you of the patterns of letters from other words?

想- 思考单词的不同组成部分，想想哪里有问题，比如双字母，或者元音的发音和自己所想的是否一样。

THINK about the parts of the words, which might cause problems - double letters for instance, or a vowel that isn't pronounced as you would expect.

遮- 遮住单词，闭上眼睛。试着开动脑子用思想去记忆它。

COVER the word and close your eyes. Try to see it in your mind's eye.

写- 写下单词，不要回看。

WRITE the word down without looking back.

查 - 检查书写的是否正确。如果不正确，仔细找出错的地方，再试一次。

CHECK to see if you're right. If not, look carefully at where you went wrong and try again. 

当我们准备书写单词的时候，记住写单词要一气呵成，切记不要每写几个字母就回去对照。当我们在想这个词的时候，试试用手在空中、桌子上或者自己的手上书写一下。助记符号对那些比较棘手的单词，或关键拼写方法很有用：拿Because举个例子吧，我们可以这样记住它！Because– Big Elephants Can Always Understand Small Elephants。又或者用Piece举个例子， Piece– a piece of pie。可以展开联想的单词很多，我们大可以放飞自己的思想。

Whenever you have to copy a new word, always try to write the whole word in one go. Don't keep looking back after every few letters. Try finger-writing: while you're THINKing about the word, pretend to write it with your finger, on your desk or on your hand. Memonics are useful for particularly tricky words, or for key spelling patterns: Because – Big Elephants Can Always Understand Small Elephants. Piece – a piece of pie.

Regarding the effectiveness of BIBS Kunming spelling teaching plan, we have achieved visible results in the 2021-2022 SPBCN International English Spelling Competition. One half of the students in PYP and one third of the students in MYP were selected.
