With the beginning of the new term, “Technology Week” long anticipated by primary school students of SCBS arrived. SCBS designed activities of different themes for every grade to enrich students’ understanding of technology in practice and to fully display their talents and creativity.
Aerospace technology has changed our lifestyle and promoted development of technology and the country. Grade 1 students learned airplane models during this Technology Week, which could sow seeds of passion for science and science research in these young minds.
Students were arranged to watch a splendid air show. The changing aerobatics aroused children’s admiration.
After the air show, teachers instructed students to make paper aeroplanes and have a flight race on the playground. Winners received a prize.
Grade 2 students visited the Shanghai Insect Museum to explore the secrets of the world of insects together.
Through this trip, students deepened their understanding of different types of insects as their characteristics and body structure. More importantly, they were allowed to make their own butterfly specimens.
Moreover, we introduced world-renowned butterfly specimens to our school so that students could appreciate these specimens to their hearts’ content at school.
As the mother of mankind, nature provides substance for the human survival. Grade 3 students had a closer interaction with nature by visiting the farmland.
When first arriving at the farmland, every student was very excited, and actively participated in the treasure hunt and ingredient preparation for meal cooking.
Particularly during cooking round, students were full of curiosity, striving to wash vegetables, make a fire and cook the meal. None of them felt tired. After the meal was done, everyone enjoyed the meal.
After the lunch, students went to visit the beehive in the field. At the field, students tried farming under the guidance of teachers. This allowed students to experience the fun of labour.
Palaeontology has a close bearing on the origin of life. Astro-observation can facilitate our exploration of secrets of the universe, and fuel the development of technology and progress of the mankind. The “Technology Week” was unveiled for Grade 4 students through the learning of palaeontology and astro-observation.
In the Haiwan Forest Park, Grade 4 students started their exploration of palaeontology and astro-observation. The astro-observation hall showed students the secrets of the sun, sunspots and ultraviolet rays. The dinosaur hall was an eye-opener of dinosaurs and other paleontological findings. Moreover, an orienteering was held to test students’ cooperation and stamina, and help them review relevant knowledge. In the archaeological exploration of fossils, students chiselled the trilobite from the fossil for proper preservation.
Under the guidance of teachers, Grade 5 students embarked on an aerospace tour. Apart from learning China’s aerospace development, students also marvelled at the charm of aerospace technology.
In the exhibition hall, students actively participated discussing aerospace topics and interacting with teachers. After the discussions, they assembled, painted and finally launched little rockets made of recyclable materials.
